TS 227 consists mostly of typescript leaves measuring 266 x 214 mm with inserted cuttings of various sizes. Wittgenstein dates the foreword “January 1945". There has also clearly been some retyping: ff. 120-123, 128 - 144, 168, 178-182, 192-193 and 204-205 measure 256 x 204 mm. It is typed on the recto side of the leaves only and annotated by Wittgenstein in pen using black ink and by Peter Geach in pencil and an unknown hand in blue/green ink. The text is in German and typed on the recto sides of the leaves only.

The following insertions are found in TS 227a: ff. 20a, 24a, 59a are handwritten notes, probably by Peter Geach; ff. 30a-b, 94a-d, 102a-b and 115a are cuttings from another typescript with annotation by Wittgenstein in black ink; ff. 82a, 86a, 88a, 90a, 95a, 98a and 192a are handwritten notes. (Page references correspond to the page names in this transcription.)

The typescript has been foliated by Wittgenstein and others thus: 1 unfoliated leaf (later foliated 1, 2-20, 20a, 21-24, 24a, 25-30, 30a, 30b, 31-59, 59a, 60-82, 82a, 83-86, 86a, 87-88, 88a, 89-90, 90a, 91-94, 94a-d, 95-96, 96a, 97-98, 98a, 99-102, 102a-b, 103-115, 115a, 116-146, 146a-b, 147-151 (renumbered from 145-149 in pen), 152-173, 174-183 (renumbered from 157-174 in pen), 184-191, 192 (renumbered from 171 in pen), 192a, 193 (renumbered from 172 in pen), 194-203, 204-205 (renumbered from 178 and 179 in pen), 206-212, 213 (renumbered from 182 in pen, 214, 215 (renumbered from 184 in pen), 216-220, 221 (renumbered from 186 in pen), 222-235, 236 (renumbered from 194 in pen), 237-324.
