MS 117 is a casebound volume measuring 293 x 241 mm. Wittgenstein has included dates between 11 September 1937 and 16 June 1940 in the text. The binding consists of black and brown marbled paper over board, quarter bound with a light brown cloth spine and corners. Internally the volume consists of one flyleaf and grey marble endpapers at front and rear with 144 leaves between, each ruled with 28 lines. Affixed to the the front pastedown is a bookseller’s label of Ed. B Giertsen of Bergen.

The text is in German with some coded remarks. A pen with blue/black ink has been used throughout, with some annotations made in red ink. Folios 133 to 144 remain blank. The used parts of the volume is paginated by Wittgenstein 1 - 271 (f. 132r.), though he repeats p. 183 and omits pages 210 to 219. It has been foliated by library staff ff. 1 to 144.
