MS 124 is a casebound volume measuring 252 x 221 mm. Wittgenstein has included dates between 6 June and 4 July 1941 and between 5 March and 3 July 1944 in the text. The binding consists of stamped navy blue buckram, quarter bound with navy blue leather. There is a large torn label affixed to the front cover by the literary executors. Internally there are two flyleaves with claret and blue marbled endpapers to front and rear and 144 leaves measuring 241 x 182 mm, ruled with 25 lines per page. The front pastedown bears a booksellers label reading ‘W Heffer and Sons Ltd, 19 Sidney Street, Cambridge’. The volume is paginated by Wittgenstein pp. 1-292, beginning on the verso of the second front flyleaf and finishing on the second rear flyleaf recto. It had been foliated ff 1-60, 62-148 by library staff.

The text is written in German with some coded remarks in blue/black and brown ink. There is some dog-earing, notably on pages 72, 77, 79, 94 and 96.
