MS 148 is a softback notebook measuring 279 x 225 mm. The binding consists of brown (possibly originally green) card covers with a green spine which was originally staple bound. There is a small label on the front cover affixed by the literary executors and ‘C4’ written in pencil in the top right-hand corner. The front cover is also quite stained. Internally there are 48 leaves measuring 279 x 218 mm, each ruled with 29 lines per page. Pagination is irregular; the volume is paginated pp. 1-6, then a leaf is missed, 7-10, a page is missed, 1-47, 11-46, likely by Wittgenstein. The text is in German and English and written in pencil.
