MS 158 is a hardback pocket notebook measuring 160 x 98 mm. Wittgenstein has included the date 24 February 1938 in the text. The sewn binding consists of black fabric over board with a dark red fabric spine. There is a small label on the front cover affixed by the literary executors. Internally there are 46 leaves measuring 161 x 97 mm each ruled with 19 lines to the page; the front and rear pastedowns are similarly ruled. The volume is foliated ff. 1-47, including the rear pastedown, foliation is not by Wittgenstein. The text is in German and English and written using pencil and pen with blue/black and black inks.
