MS 162b is a spiral-bound pocket notebook. Wittgenstein has included dates between 10 April and 21 August 1940 in the text. The binding consists of green soft card covers, measuring 158 x 102 mm. There is a label affixed to the front cover by the literary executors. Internally there are 72 leaves measuring 158 x 100 mm, ruled with 19 lines and foliated 1-72. Folios 71 and 72 are blank. The text is in German with some coded remarks, written in pencil and pen using blue and blue/black inks.

This volume was passed by Rush Rhees to Trinity College Library on 25 Sep 1970. It received some liquid damage during conservation in 1977.
