MS 163 is a hardback notebook measuring 160 x 98 mm. Wittgenstein has included dates between 22 June and 29 September 1941 in the text. The binding consists of dark green buckram on card, the leaves are sewn in. There is a label on the front cover affixed by the literary executors. Internally there are front and rear flyleaves and 78 leaves ruled with 19 lines each and foliated ff. 1-78; foliation is not by Wittgenstein. The text is in German with some coded remarks, written in pencil and pen using blue and blue/black inks. The volumes has also been used from rear to front: folios 74 to 78 have been used from rear to front, upside down.

This volume was passed by Rush Rhees to Trinity College Library on 25 Sep 1970.
