MS 174 is a hardback notebook measuring 246 x 192 mm. Wittgenstein includes the date 24 April 1950 in the text. The binding consists of black and white speckled paper on board, with a black buckram spine. A large label has been affixed to the front cover by the literary executors bearing the reference ‘Sheet 5, 62’. Internally there are 87 leaves measuring 245 x 190 mm, each ruled with 22 lines with a red vertical line 36 mm from the left margin of the page. The volume has been foliated 1-39, 40 (on f. 39v) by Wittgenstein, the foliation continued by another hand ff. 40-87. The text is in German and written in pen using blue and blue/black ink.
