MS 171 is a reporter’s-style, spiral bound notebook measuring 233 x 148 originating from the USA. The covers are brown card with printing on the front cover, covered by a large note affixed by the literary executors bearing the reference ‘Sheet 5, 63’. Internally, there are 21 leaves measuring 226 x 148 mm, each ruled with 24 lines and a blue vertical one 79 mm from the left margin. The volume is paginated by Wittgenstein pp. 1-3, then two unpaginated blank pages, 4-14; the remaining pages are blank. The text is in German, written in pen using blue/black ink. Some pages show water damage suffered during conservation in 1977.
